The colored sphere seen in "Desert Sphere" is used in a reflective version in this simple image of five ray-traced spheres. (The fifth sphere is the white "sun" seen reflected on the shiny spheres.) The idea of this image was to create a "sense of place" with a minimal number of simple primitives plus some subtle procedural textures.

"Orbit" has been subsumed in a larger composition in "Orbit II." This image was designed for the cover of the Yale Department of Computer Science catalog. The composition is a little peculiar, as it was designed to be folded down the middle. Note that the planet on the left is reflected in the spheres on the right.

Several years ago I was commissioned to render an image for use in marketing Linda, the parallel programming language developed by my advisor David Gelernter. Among other things, my work with Scientific Computing Associates in New Haven (developers of the Linda products) lead to my meeting my lovely wife who did marketing there. This is a variation on that commissioned image, re-rendered for the 1997 Fractals Calendar.

This image was created for publicity for the Burning Man Rocket Project. The goal of this project is to put the first amateur satellite in low Earth orbit at the Burning Man event in '97. Tallyho!
