Paragliding at Sandymount, near Dunedin, New Zealand, on February 20th, 2001

Photos by Brent Russel.

It was far prettier than this picture... A rare, beautiful summer day in southern New Zealand. I've been spending most of my time here since December, as Dunedin is the home of Pandromeda's programming office.

The lift got scratchy for a bit. Brent, Craig, our VP of Engineering (with the blue wing), and I had to work to stay up towards the end of our session.

Ah, a lawn chair in the sky! This is about the most relaxing sport in the world, when everything is going well. You steer by simply leaning to the side, and crossing your legs to the same side.

It's a wonderful way to see the sights. at about one hour, this was my longest flight ever. It beat my previous best, a 45 minute flight in a Seagull III hang glider at Steptoe Butte in Montana (or was it Idaho?) back in the summer of 1976.

"Hi mom!" Work hard, play hard. I ended up with just a few grass stains from my less-than-perfect landing. :-)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch: Waterford, Virginia, March 10th, 2001

The Kiwis said I looked like Mojo of the Borg with my headset phone on. My old friend Rich Davis let me try out his company's wearable computer. Now there's a better Borg.

Then Legume, our Community Relations guy, got ahold of me. I tell ya', "good help is hard to find."

The next day I pounded out my first 4 pound (1.75" OD) black powder rocket. (The dark spots near the top of the image are the result of some of my Rocket Science experiments over Christmas break.)

Then Chas Smith, our Director of PR, stuck my head up the business end of the motor... Like I said, good help is hard to find. >:-|

It's spring now, and time for a new look...
